You won’t know until you open it.

Did you have an advent calendar as a kid? I don’t remember ever having one, but that might be because I wasn’t that kind of kid. I didn’t do sweets and I wasn’t…excitable. But maybe we just didn’t have one.

My wife, on the other hand, LOVES them. Chocolate behind the door? Doesn’t matter that it’s seven in the morning, it gets eaten. I love watching her rush to open it. Last year I got her an Inkvent calendar; each door hid a special little bottle of ink for her fountain pens. Needless to say, that’s not one you get someone every year.

But because of the fun involved, we’ve decided to do a Festive Fiction advent calendar. The authors who attended Queer the Shelves all put a little something in. Every day we’ll ask a question, and then we’ll choose a random winner from the responses. This way we’re actually interacting and having some fun and getting to know each other, too, and I like the thought of that connection.
