I’m really, really shit at promoting myself. I forget to tell people I write books. I don’t like talking about myself, I don’t like seeming pushy. I’m awkward at the best of times.
So, taking all that into account, my partner Robyn is really good at all that stuff. She even came up with a cool logo and tag line for her author brand. Recently we were trying to come up with a logo for me. Im not sure why…maybe wearing something with my name on it will mean I don’t have to make that first painful, awkward introduction. Maybe so people will see the logo and remember to see if I’ve written any new books.
But I couldn’t come up with anything that encapsulated what I write and the type of weirdo I am. Furies, religion, climate change, fairytales, love, drunkenness, murder…it all seemed a bit much to fit together. Until I thought of some silly old stick drawings I used to do that represented me doing fascinating things like laying on a couch, or tripping on the pattern in the carpet.
And I said to Robyn, “can you make me a stick figure? Holding a cup of coffee and a book?” (Because those are my two addictions.)
She set to it, and I’m happy to show the world Little Brey Willows. Reading, of course, a book by Robyn Nyx. (Cross promotion and all that.) There are T-shirts to be worn and cards to be handed out.
I still won’t properly introduce myself…
